a small sized book, 6and one half inches by 4 and one fourth inches. Decorated green boards, embossing in red and gold. A little bit of blue is still visible on the spine. 281 pages. The book was written by Sergeant-Major Edward Cotton who was 'an eye witness and actor in many of the scenes he attempts to describe.' He later was a guide of the battle field. The title page reads as follows: A Voice from Waterloo A History of the Battle fought on the 18th June 1815 with a selection from the Wellington dispatches, General orders and Letters relating to the battle. Illustrated with Engravings, Portraits and Plans.
Fifth edition, revised and enlarged. The book contains ten plates, one of which is an outline map of the Waterloo campaign showing where the forces of the Allies, Prussians and French were. Listed in the Appendix are the regiments, the officers killed , officers wounded, and various letters.
After the battle the author maintained a museum called Waterloo Cabinet. The contents of this museum are listed. The book is in fair condition, with age related staining and fading. Spine is still firmly attached. Some pages have small rips.No pages are missing. A very interesting history of this eventful battle!
