Remarkable scholarly collection of old maps, compiled and edited by Emerson Fife and Archibald Freeman; originally published in 1926. This is a reissue by Arno Press New York. The subtitle is 'Delineating American History from the Earliest Days Down to the Close of the American Revolution' This is a large book, 10' by 14 1/2' , 299 pages. The earliest map shown in the book is the Vinalnd map,1440. The most recent one is Plan of York Town in Virginia, 1825, by J.F. Renault. There are a total of 75 maps here, all shown full page, each shown with at least one full page of explanatory text, in many casses more pages. Extensive footnotes.
The book itself is in excellent condition apart from soiling on the page ends. The paper bookcover has short tears in two places, but could be taped; it's a handsome cover. Underneath the hardcover is dark brown.
