This is a 1920 souvenir program for the 'The Chautauqua of the South' Fourth Annual Music Festival in Macon, Georgia. Apparently a big deal for Macon; the festival ran for 10 days in May. Performances by the Metroplitan Opera Company, the Russian Symphony Orchestra, and individual opera stars. The program runs 48 pages with each day's performance listed separately. The highlight of the program is the ads for the local Macon businesses. Eighteen full page ads for local business, everything from hotels to the local Ford dealership! Check out the soda and movie theatre ads above.
The program is 9'x6' and is in excellent shape to be 88 years old. Some minor soiling and discoloration to covers, previous owner's name and dorm address at Milledgeville Normal and Industrial College written at top. One set of pages has a dark rectangular stain where some paper was left in program but is perfectly 'readable'. Otherwise, an occasional spot of foxing on clean white pages. Stapled binding is solid. No tears to any of the pages. A wonderful addition to any Macon Georgia or Georgiana collection!
