Jamboree Journal 1937 Boy Scouts of America Jamboree Journal 1937 Boy Scouts of America

The national Scout Jamboree is a gathering of thousands of members of the Boy Scouts of America usually held every four years and organized by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Referred to as 'the Jamboree', 'Jambo', or NSJ, Scouts from all over the nation and world have the opportunity to attend. They are considered to be one of several unique experiences that the Boy Scouts of America offers. The first jamboree was scheduled to be held in 1935 in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Scouting, but was delayed until 1937. The idea of holding the event on a regular basis did not take root at first, and the next jamboree wasn't held until 1950 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

This 1937 Boy Scouts of America Jamboree Journal chronicles the first Jamboree ever held.  It belonged to my uncle who was an Eagle Scout.  It is filled with newspaper type stories about the activities surrounding this historic event.  The first page has a picture and an article stating:

“Greeting Form (actually misspelled!) President.  The Nation’s Chief Executive and the honorary president of the Boy Scouts, Franklin D. Roosevelt, is at work in his White House study drafting a message for Jamboree Scouts.”

This is truly an amazing piece of history.  Just 4 ½ years later this country would be embroiled in World War II.

The book measures 17 inches long, 11 ¾ wide, and ¾ inch thick.  There are a few tiny nicks to the edges
