The Nakles Collection of Incunabula. Sale 9342, Christies, New York, 17 April, 2000. 300 pp., plus two leaves (subscription form and absentee bid sheet).
An important sale of a very selective collector's accumulation of 181 incunabula, ordered by Proctor number. The citations are satisfying complete, with full collations, provenance, binding data, bibliographic references, and learned puffery (by whom is not clear---Felix de Marez-Oyens maybe?). Lots 182 to 208 comprise a few important 16th century works, and Nakles's enviable collection of reference works. There are also 92 rubbings of binders' tools, a few of which were unknown to Kyriss. Attractive catalogue and a useful reference.
9 x 12'. In publisher's original printed wraps. Corners bumped. A very good copy.
I will also be auctioning other works in bibliography, book history, and bookbinding in the days upcoming, including:
Bookbinding 2000 Proceedings. A Collection of papers from the June 2000 Conference Celebration the Installation and Opening of the Bernard C. Middleton of Books on the History and Practice of Bookbinding. Melbert B. Cary, Wallace Library, Rochester Institute of technology, 2002. , 104 pp.
The Book and Paper Group Annual. The American Institute for the Conservation of Histo
