This is a most unusual book. It is titled 'A Few Words Regarding Niagara Falls'. I appears to be the Sixth Annual Report of the State Reservation at Niagara, prepared in 1889. The report was submitted to the state Legislature by Thomas Welch, Superintendent. The book contains a large number of photographs, three very detailed maps, and reports that include various projects, a complete financial statement including payables and receivables, a day to day listing of visitors and how they arrived at the falls, various letters by Andrew Green opposing the act to allow the Niagara Hydraulic Electric Company to erect machinery under the falls, a history of the Niagara River by G K Gilbert, Historic Niagara by Peter Porter, an extensive bibliography on historic references to the falls, a report by James Hall, State Geologist entitled its Past, Present, and Prospective Condition.
The maps are Trigonometrical Survey of the Falls, 1875 map of the falls prepared by the Corp of Engineers, and a map showing the position of Crest Lines dated 1886.
The strange thing about this book is that the pages are not number sequentially. The pages and maps are all in very good condition. The cover and binding are only in fair condition. There are no lose pages. The book measures 9' x 6'. I am estimating that the book has 200 pages including maps, pictures, and printed pages.
