The ‘Maurice’ of the inscriptions is Maurice Guinness, who is mentioned in the acknowledgments as the man ‘whose long contact with the humanity of Shell’s industrial and personnel relations enabled him to weigh the impact of Sir Douglas’s personality and spirit on overseas staff’. Bader worked for the Shell Company from 1946 to his death in 1982, the year after this book was published.
