The item being offered is a book entitled, Useful Birds and Their Protection. The book was authored by Edward Howe Forbush, the Orthinologist to the Massachusetts State Board of Agriculture. Published by the State Board of Agriculture in 1907, this is a second edition of the publication. It contains approximately one hundred and seventy-one drawings and over fifty plates by the author, C. Allan Lyford, A. Reed and others. The colored frontispiece of a Wood Duck is taken from work by Louis Agassiz Fuertes. This is a very complete assessment of birds in Massachusetts, their habitat, the benficial aspects of birds, as well as the need to protect birds.
The book is reasonably tight and clean. The front and rear hinges are beginning to crack, although the text block is intact and still well secured to the covers. The spine caps show scuffing and wear. A name is inscribed in ink on the front flyleaf. Overall, the condition of the book is Gd to VG.
This is nice example of one of the standard ornithological texts.
