Betty Crocker's Picture Cookbook, 1950
1st edition, 1st printing
This is a hard to find 1st/1st hardcover - not spiral bound. The cover is bright and clean, with only some minor shelf wear. Page 19/20 seems to have fallen out some time ago and had a mediocre repair done to reattach it. It has since started to loosen itself again (see picture). Other than that, the pages are all attached, secure and clean.
Betty Crocker, an invented persona and cultural icon, is a brand name and trademark of American food company General Mills. The name was first developed by the Washburn Crosby Company in 1921 as a way to give a personalized response to consumer product questions. The name Betty was selected because it was viewed as a cheery, All-American name. It was paired with the last name Crocker, in honor of William Crocker, a Washburn Crosby Company director. Betty Crocker continues to be the first name in cooking reference.
This is a unique opportunity to own a great piece of American history, or would make a wonderfully unique wedding gift for the young bride. This book is from a smoke free home and has been kept in an enclosed bookcase.
