For your consideration is this very rare first edition of Ilse Bischoff's Woocut Miniature (3 1/2' by 5') Edition ~ THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS ~ Published by Holiday House in NY with the Helen Gentry/William E. Rudge's Sons colophon, printed in the back (see picture). Not dated, circa 1930's, this book has a wonderful introduction by Vernon Ives, telling the story of the Poem. He talks of the first appearance of the poem by Clement Moore, in THE NEW YORK BOOK OF POETRY, and how Moore is credited with Santa's sleigh, his 8 reindeer, his furs, his pipe and his method of entrance vai the chimney!
Book is in good, complete condition. Decorated Cloth boards with cloth spine, there is a small amount of cover wear with some sticker residue on front cover (can see in picture). Binding is moderately tight, although there is a cracked hinge in the front of the book. No torn pages, no odors. On the front and back endpage, there is a picture of a window in pencil, about the size of a nickel. The colophon has been traced in ink. There is a small bookseller label on front free endpage. Overall, a wonderful old and hard to find collectible copy of the Night Before Christmas! Check out my other hard to find Christmas books. I combine shipping!
