Memoirs of the Confederate War For Independence by Heros Von Borcke, Lately Chief of Staff to General J.E.B. Stuart in Two Volumes, Vol I. Published by Peter Smith New York 1938 First published in 1866.
This volume has 323 numbered pages with nine chapters (Chapter I: 'Voyage, and arrival in the States' to Chapter IX: 'The expedition into Pennsylvania') and tells of Heros Von Borcke's voyage on the steamer Hero, 'a vessel built for running the blockade of ports of the Confederate States', his arrival in Charleston, and joining the Army of Northern Virginia.
The page edges are dirty along the top and the gold color of the title has faded from the spine. There is an owners bookplate in the inside cover and a small penciled notation as well. There are several areas of penciling particularly in Chapter Three (The battle of Mechanicsville-The battle of Coal Harbour or Gaines' Mill). The pages are clean, with no foxing, and good corners.
