This elaborately Illustrated book is by Addie E. Heron and is titled Fancy Work for Pleasure and Profit. Published in 1905 by Thompson & Thompson it is dedicated to Mrs. Potter Palmer ~ a woman of the highest social distinction, possessed of all the gracious attributes of true womanhood, honored by the nation and beloved by all who knew her. Wow.
This book covers everything a proper lady needed to know including various types of embroidery and stitches, lace making, beaded purses, painting and even wood burning. You will learn how to make writing boards for invalids, lamp shades, pillows and lace insertions as well as hundreds of other useful and not so useful - (but pretty!) items. There are many, many black and white drawings of different designs and quite a few full page color plates of finished items, with a definite Art Nouveau flair.
Found interspersed amongst the pages are wads of Persian Floss, some greens, a batch of yellow and another of lavender.
The book is in rough condition structurally, spine binding undone and loose pages as well, don't notice any of them missing though. The brown embossed cloth is coming off the covers in places, and the white paint highlighting the design is mostly missing. The pages have aged to a lovely sepia with some darkening around the edges. Don't see any writing or tears. And it is a bit musty - not bad, but there.
Thanks for looking and please be sure to ask if you should have questions!
