Brazel leased land from Pat Garrett on the slopes of the San Andres Mountains in New Mexico and admitted to shooting Garrett in a dispute over the use of that land for grazing goats. There is considerable controversy over whether or not there was a conspiracy by others to have Garrett killed, and have the even-tempered Brazel take the fall for the act. Brazel was later acquitted in a jury trial on the grounds of self defense.
The text of this book originally appeared in the Panhandle-Plains Historical Review. Reportedly only about 50 copies were offprinted and bound for distribution to friends of the author.
