'India: Land of the Black Pagoda' was written by Lowell Thomas and was published in 1930. It appears to be a first printing and was printed by Collier by special arrangement with Appleton-Century. The book is in good condition, has 350 pages and measures 8 1/4' high x 5 3/8' wide (21cm x 14cm). There are 17 full page and 2 half-page black and white photographs by H.A. Chase and Lowell Thomas. Some of the 51 chapters are, ' The Well-Jumpers of Delhi', 'The Caves of Ajanta', 'The Vale of Kashmir', 'The Black Pagoda',and 'Rubies, Priests, and Sacred Bulls'. The book is in good condition with a litttle wear on the cover and a little fading of the gilt writing on the spine. The pages of text have tanned with age but the photographs are on a whiter paper. One of the photographs has some smudging along one corner and the pages have a small light watermark stain at the bottom corner. The front binding is good and the back inside cover has a tear but is holding well. This book is unusual for its photographic content and provides a view of India in the late 1920s.
