A collection of contemporary documents compiled and edited by John Langdon-Davies. Folder, approx 9” x 13”,  in the style of a document wallet, containing facsimile letters, brochures, broadsheets etc. A fascinating and humbling insight into this period of history.

Includes  A plan of the slaving ship “Brookes” prepared by the Wilberforce Committee “to give the spectator an idea of the sufferings of the Africans in the middle passage”;  a bill advertising West Indian slave auction 1829; selected pages from the  Journal of John Newton [a slave trader who later became a priest and abolitionist]; views of slavery from cartoons of 1790, 1830 and 1832, and 5 [of 6] broadsheets including Slavery, How It Began, The plantations, and Why did it take so long?.
