In 1894 William Milligan Sloane, Professor of History at Columbia University first published the four volume set of The Life of Napoleon. The auction is for the revised and enlarged printing of 1916, complete with portraits. The first volume begins with Napoleon's life in Corsica and 444 pages later ends with the fall of Venice. Volume II picks up with the rescue of the Directory and stops with the beginning of the Continental System after 446 pages. The third volume begins with the war with Russia and the battle of Pultusk, covering the years in Russia, the retreat, and the first campaign in Saxony. All in 425 pages. The last volume starts with the victory at Dresden and ends with an analysis of Napoleon's place in history. The last book has a wonderful index that also provides some historic insights. This set is labeled library edition, but the spin has no markings to indicate it was ever in a public or educational library. With something of it's age it will have the ruffled pages, tears or stain or two, but none detract from the readability of collectibility of this set. No reserve, bid freely and bid often! Any questions, please ask before bidding. The set must be considered, 'as is.'
