Hoen & Co., Baltimore, 1899, Revised Edition. A History Of The Regiment From Its First Organization To The Present Time. The Regiment was established in May 1867 after authorizing legislation to establish a State Militia was passed in March 1867. The first Colonel Was James R. Herbert and the commanding Officer was Colonel Frank Markov in 1899 at the time of publication. The HB book has grey covers with an interesting pictorial on the cover, many great photos, Rosters of original Officers and a full Roster of the Regiment in 1898. The history is interesting and includes detailed accounts of the Regiments participation in putting down the Baltimore labor riots in 1877 and the activation and participation of the Regiment as U.S. Volunteers in The Spanish American War. The book also includes about 40 pages of interesting old ads from the Baltimore area. The book is in good condition, clean and tight, with wear on the cover corners and t/b spine edges and a small spot on upper right edge of cover (see scans).There is an old postcard of the 5th Regiment Armory, Baltimore laid into the book. A very rare book to find of Baltimore military history.
